New brain-scan technique uses IR-detecting headband
Here is another fun one for more unusual input devices. There are a number of companies that have been using brain waves as a possible controller for computers for a few years now. They range from the simple models detecting general activity, all the way up to companies like Emotive that claim to be able to track 30 different unique mental ’states’ with their headset. Most companies push these as possible gaming devices but the possibilities are endless.
This device uses IR to track rather than more traditional EM radiation like its competitors. While not totally unique, the number of these devices popping up lately leads us to believe that these type of input devices are getting much closer to a usable reality than most people might have imagined.
